It’s worse here in SFO…..I’m all for higher fines and would love it if repeat offenders get their driver’s licenses suspended. They forget that driving is a priveledge and not a right. What does it take to just pull over to make that phone call or send that text? What in heaven’s name did we do before cell phones? My goodness….does everything have to be “me first” and “now, now now”? Slow down…life is tooooo short! :)

Now on another note, if I can get a $100. ticket for parking IN MY OWN driveway, surely you’d think a cell phone violation is worth at LEAST double that! And yes, becasue of some stupid old law on the books, I had to pay the ticket……go figure!

Agree Dee, PDX drivers have enough to deal with – construction, bikers, Tri-Met, jaywalkers. How many times do I get cut off or have to maneuver around a driver on a cell phone? Too many!

Yeah! As a driver in the Portland OR metro area I’ve had it with people who add to the traffic craziness by paying more attention to their cell phone than the road. Especially texting which is pretty much equivalent to driving with blinders…!
Make texting a HUGE fine, and if the person continues to text while behind the wheel – how about a suspension of their license for a couple months?
Since there would be costs associated with enforcement, the fines should be high enough to offset those costs.
